Neurological Conditions

The nervous system is a complex system that regulates and coordinates body activities. It is made up of two major divisions. They are the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The Central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The peripheral nervous system is made up of everything else.

In addition to the brain and spinal cord, these are the main organs of the nervous system:

  • Eyes

  • Ears

  • Sensory organs of taste

  • Sensory organs of smell

  • Sensory receptors in the skin, joints, muscles, and other parts of the body

Neurological conditions refer to diseases, injuries, and disorders of the brain, nerves, and spinal cord. The nervous system can be damaged by:

  • Trauma

  • Infections

  • Degeneration

  • Structural defects

  • Tumors

  • Blood flow disruption
