To Heal and to Serve

The Franciscan movement began with the compassionate spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and has endured for more than 800 years from medieval Italy to modern times. Following his vision, the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany's tradition of bringing health and hope to those in need dates back 150 years to Allegany, New York. It continues to endure through the work of the sisters in the U.S.A., the Caribbean, Central and South America. The Congregation's mission of ministering to the medical, spiritual and emotional needs of individuals flourishes today at St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital and St. Joseph's Women's Hospital.

Franciscan Sisters of Allegany Mission

We, the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany, seek to live the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ. We witness to God's love in the Franciscan tradition by living as sisters to all creation and by joyfully serving others, especially those who are poor or marginalized.
