Gynecological Cancer

We utilize the most advanced technology available while also providing compassionate care tailored to the individual needs of each woman.

Gynecologic Oncologists in Clearwater, Florida

Board-certified in both gynecology and gynecological oncology, our gynecological surgeons are at the forefront of their fields. These physicians are able to direct your treatment from diagnosis through post-surgical care and recovery. This comprehensive approach helps to ensure consistency and continuity of care, critical for positive patient outcomes.

In addition, our Gynecological Cancer Program pioneered the area's use of robotic-assisted technology in the surgical treatment of gynecological cancer. In fact, Florida's first robotic-assisted surgery to treat endometrial cancer was performed at Morton Plant Hospital.

Diagnostic Testing & Imaging

Detecting cancer as early as possible offers the best chance for a positive outcome, which is why Morton Plant Hospital offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic testing services and imaging procedures, including:

  • Genetic testing
  • Pelvic laparoscopy
  • Hysteroscopy
  • Imaging-guided biopsy
  • PET/CT
  • MRI

While there are many treatment options and therapies for gynecological cancer, including radiation therapy, hormone therapy and/or chemotherapy, surgery may be required, either alone or in conjunction with non-surgical treatments. Today's leading-edge robotic technology offers a minimally invasive alternative to traditional open surgery. The da Vinci Surgical System® can significantly reduce recovery time for women requiring a radical hysterectomy in the treatment of gynecological cancer.

Traditionally, treating a patient with endometrial, cervical or early ovarian cancer meant open surgery with a large abdominal incision, multi-night hospital stay, narcotic pain management, the potential for significant blood loss, and up to six weeks of recovery time. While all surgeries involve risks, a hysterectomy or myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids) performed through the da Vinci Robotic System offers many benefits over traditional surgeries:

  • Less invasive procedure, resulting in lower blood loss and decreased risk of infection
  • Smaller incisions and minimal scarring
  • Less postoperative pain
  • Shorter hospital stay (usually one night)
  • Faster recovery
  • Quicker return to normal activities

While each woman's cancer scenario is unique, if a radical hysterectomy is the best alternative for you, it's good to know that robotic technology makes that route safer and can enable you to get back to your life more quickly.
