Outpatient and Support Services
Individuals in need of counseling services receive an initial assessment and development of a treatment plan that is individually designed with you to guide your treatment. Counseling services may include individual, family or group treatment. Staff are highly trained and credentialed to provide services for individuals of all ages including very young pre-school children, school age children and adolescents as well as adults and older adults.
Case management and other support services are also available to assist individuals with service linkage and monitoring related to their behavioral health, medical, housing, employment and other related needs.
Other community services such as psycho-educational groups, parenting programs and free community presentations are also offered.
Board Certified/Eligible Psychiatrists and Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioners provide psychiatric evaluation and diagnostic services, and prescribe and manage psychotropic medications. They work closely with nurses and a contracted on site pharmacy to provide coordinated care.
Child Intensive Day Services
The Parent and Adolescent Counseling and Education (PACE) Program offers intensive day treatment services for children and teens ages 9-17 in need of more than traditional outpatient therapy. The length and duration of treatment depends on the needs of the child but typically is daily for up to several months.
Specialized Services for Families
Special services for children and their families throughout Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties are provided through contracts with the state of Florida’s Department of Children and Families and Heartland for Children. These services are designed to provide assistance and stability to families whose children are either at risk of removal, or have already been removed from their home due to abuse or neglect These special programs include Family Support Services (FSS), Family Intervention Team (FIT) and Family Assistance Support Team (FAST).
School Based Services
Children with emotional issues in Polk County public schools have access to on site mental health consultation and counseling services from our professional staff. These services are made available through a contract with the Polk County School Board. Included are children from pre-school age through high school. Additionally, through specialty contracts our trained pre-school specialists provide on site counseling and consultation to assist in the developmental and emotional needs for young children in pre-school head start centers and migrant head start centers throughout Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties.
Inpatient Psychiatric Services
The Center for Psychiatry (CFP) of the Winter Haven Hospital, Inc. provides psychiatric hospitalization and treatment in a comfortable lake front setting for up to 30 adults, ages 18 and above. The Treatment Team is recovery focused to engage the person in order to achieve treatment goals. They also address co-occurring medical and substance use issues that may be affecting the person and ensures that follow up care is arranged prior to discharge.
Outpatient Observation is also provided through the Center for Psychiatry. It is a special service that allows patients to be served in an acute care setting within the hospital under a physician’s care for a limited amount of time up to 23 hours. This specialty care can assist in short term symptom resolution and in determining necessity for inpatient hospitalization.
Access Services assists in determining the level of behavioral health care needed for you or your family member. Service is provided by telephone at (800) 723-3248 or for emergency services people may be seen in the Winter Haven Hospital Emergency Department by trained Access Services counselors. Service is available 24 hours per day, 365 days per year to assist our community.
Psychiatric Consultation- an array of professional behavioral health consultation services are available for patients on medical units within Winter Haven Hospital through the request for a consult from the attending physician. Psychiatric consultation is provided by Board Certified Psychiatrist or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP). Additionally depression screenings are provided by a Masters Social Worker for all medical patients throughout the hospital.
The Peer Recovery Program
This service offers education, socialization, employment skills, and support to individuals who have a mental health diagnosis. It is a peer lead, peer support program with staff support that helps to empower all participants to move them towards recovery. Service is offered twice a week at two different locations in Winter Haven:
- Monday from 11am-3pm in the community at the Abiding Savior Lutheran Church located at 1910 Havendale Boulevard
- Wednesday from 12:30-4:30pm at Winter Haven Hospital, Inc. Center for Behavioral Health. This includes a support group from 2pm-3:30pm.
Any individual receiving services, a family member, caretaker or community member with interest is welcomed to attend and receive support and education related to mental health issues.
Specialized Services for Adults
The Center for Behavioral Health offers NeuroStar Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Therapy®. TMS is the first and only non-systemic and non-invasive depression treatment to be cleared by the FDA for adults suffering from Major Depressive Disorder. This treatment is provided in an outpatient treatment setting.
Another specialized service for Adults is the Memory Clinic for the treatment of memory loss associated with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, stroke and other brain injuries. This service is provided through a partnership with the University of South Florida Applied Neuroscience Lab and the Winter Haven Hospital’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Services.
