Morton Plant Mease and Clearwater Threshers Honor Breast Cancer Survivors at 9th Annual Pitch for Pink

CLEARWATER, Fla., (June 9, 2014) - Morton Plant Mease and the Clearwater Threshers are planning to knock it out of the ballpark for breast cancer awareness and give special recognition to breast cancer survivors during the 9th annual Pitch for Pink event. The community is invited to fill up the stands and support the event scheduled for July 11, 2014, at Bright House Field, 601 N Old Coachman Road, Clearwater.
Since the event’s inception in 2006, Pitch for Pink has raised nearly $200,000 to help support breast cancer programs and services at Morton Plant Mease. Amanda Koch, community relations manager for the Clearwater Threshers, lost her grandmother to breast cancer. With her and the team’s passion for the cause and Morton Plant Mease’s commitment to providing top quality breast health services in the community, it’s a team effort to honor Amanda’s grandmother and others who lost their lives to the disease, show support to breast cancer survivors, and raise more awareness about early detection during this annual event.
The Friday night event is filled with several activities including the Clearwater Threshers, Class A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, taking on the Palm Beach Cardinals, Class A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals; a breast cancer survivors’ lap around the baseball diamond; a silent auction; and a post-game Old-School Concert featuring Coolio (Gangsta’s Paradise) and Slick Rick (Children’s Story) performing fun and memorable songs.
The breast cancer survivors’ lap is a special part of the night. Players from both teams, along with the fans, cheer on survivors as they walk a lap around the bases before the game, recognizing their strength battling breast cancer.
Pink jerseys worn by the players and pink bats will be autographed and auctioned off in the silent auction along with several other donated items from local businesses and individuals. Attendees will also have an opportunity to win prizes with the Pink Balloons items.
The event schedule:
5:30 p.m. – Gates open (first 1,000 women through the gates receive a commemorative Pitch for Pink tote bag)
6 p.m. – Breast cancer survivors’ lap
6:30 p.m. – Clearwater Threshers vs. Palm Beach Cardinals
Post Game – Old School Concert: Coolio (Gangsta’s Paradise), Slick Rick (Children’s Story)
