St. Anthony's Triathlon Needs Volunteers for Three Races

Community Invited to Be Part of the Action, April 25-27

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (April 7, 2014) – St. Anthony’s Triathlon organizers are looking for approximately 1,000 volunteers to be part of an exciting world class triathlon event held in downtown St. Petersburg and help with the weekend lineup of races that attract approximately 3,500 athletes and 125 relay teams during race weekend, April 25-27.
 
Volunteers are needed in a variety of roles to help the athletes get ready to race and make it to the finish lines by helping with athlete check-in, timing chip distribution, body marking, course marshals, water station and merchandise sales. Volunteers will work at the two-day St. Anthony’s Sports and Fitness Expo on April 25-26; the Meek & Mighty Triathlon on April 26; and at the main Triathlon international distance race and sprint distance race on April 27. 

Volunteers are greatly appreciated and will receive a commemorative race T-shirt and access to the volunteer hospitality tent. Act fast to get preferred assignments. Volunteers who are younger than age 18 must have parental approval to participate. Volunteer schedules, directions and parking instructions will be distributed before the race.

Groups, such as schools, clubs, churches and other not-for-profit organizations are invited to participate as a “volunteer team” and work together at a water station or other location. For more information on group volunteer opportunities, please call (813) 420-7815. 

The St. Anthony’s Triathlon is entering its fourth year as part of the World Triathlon Corporation’s (WTC) 5150 Triathlon Series and is a qualifier for the HyVee 5150 U.S. Championship. The race also serves as the USA Triathlon Florida Regional Championship, qualifying athletes for the USAT Nationals. This year, the race has been selected as the 2014 Paratriathlon Florida Regional Championship event by USA Triathlon (USAT). The Florida Regional Championship race will host several Paralympic hopefuls looking to join Team USA as the sport of paratriathlon makes its debut at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games in Brazil. The Meek & Mighty Race has been named the only Florida qualifier for the 2014 Hy-Vee Kids Triathlon Regional Championship.

The 2014 St. Anthony’s Triathlon weekend events and registration fees are: 

Friday, April 25 – Saturday, April 26: 
Sports and Fitness Expo, Straub Park, 500 Beach Drive. 
Friday: Noon – 7 p.m.; Saturday: 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., Free. 

Saturday, April 26: 
Meek & Mighty Triathlon, North Shore Pool, 901 North Shore Drive. 
Shorter distance race for youths ages 7 – 14 and novice adults. 7:30 a.m. start time. Individuals registration fee: $65

Sunday, April 27: 
St. Anthony’s Triathlon, North Shore & Vinoy Parks 
International-distance race (1.5K swim, 40K bike and 10K run.) 6:50 a.m. start time. (Individuals registration fee: $180
St. Anthony’s Sprint Triathlon, North Shore & Vinoy Parks
Sprint- distance race (750-meter swim, 20K bike, 5K run) Approx. 8:45 a.m. start time. Individuals registration fee: $85
