Tips for Living Younger

  • Keep active. As you age, you can help maintain lung capacity by doing aerobic exercise for at least 30 minutes three to four times a week.

  • Build strength. Weight training and strength training helps you avoid falls and balance problems.

  • Stay flexible. Add a few minutes of stretching to your daily routine.

  • Maintain a healthy weight.

  • Don't smoke. Smoking causes cancer, contributes to several degenerative diseases and makes you look older by drying the skin.

  • Protect yourself from the sun. Exposure makes skin look years older and causes skin cancer. Sun protection should begin in childhood -- 80 percent of sun exposure occurs before age 21.

  • Get enough sleep. Too little sleep puts stress on your body.
