Sunburn No-Nos
What not to put on sunburn:
Butter or petroleum jelly. Greasy salves can hold heat in the wound and slow healing.
Your own concoction. If you're not sure what to do, call your doctor.
Abrasive soaps or hot water. Besides adding more heat to sunburn, hot water -- because it leaches out body oils -- is more drying than cold water.
Ice. Instead, wrap the ice in a towel and place the towel on your skin.
Perfumes or colognes. The chemicals in them can irritate skin that already is hurt.
