Nurse Midwifery Education

Carol worked as an OB nurse for three years before attending the Nurse-Midwifery Program. After graduation, she worked at the large nurse-midwifery service at Grady Memorial Hospital, Atlanta, GA, for a year before joining Morton Plant Hospital in 1975. After two years, she started the first private practice nurse-midwifery service in Pinellas County, where she worked for seven years and then left to have some time for her personal life. She worked for Planned Parenthood and other women's health clinics doing mostly GYN/family planning for the next three years. She rejoined the full scope of nurse-midwifery practice at Morton Plant Hospital and has remained there since. She has been in a clinical faculty position and involved in the Family Practice Residency program since its planning stages.

As a nurse-midwife she has always looked at the family centered model and has been involved in teaching the entire family during the process of pregnancy. Carol feels it is very natural to work with family practice residents, helping them learn and grow in their OB rotations. She is a firm believer of teamwork and feels that the residency program sets the best example of health care utilizing the entire team of physicians, nurse-midwives and nurses to provide the best care to the families of our community.
