Morton Plant North Bay Hospital Opens New Emergency Department

Part of Two-Year, $24.7 Million Expansion

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla., (December 11, 2017 ) -- A spacious waiting area, nature-inspired artwork and modern design touches, help to create a more comfortable environment in Morton Plant North Bay Hospital’s new emergency department. Planned to open on Tuesday, December 12, the new emergency department is designed to improve patient flow with the goal of providing quality care more efficiently.

When fully complete, Morton Plant North Bay’s new emergency department will provide 28 private treatment rooms, an increase from the existing 18. It will include an additional 15-bed unit for those who require more observation or monitoring, a new dedicated entrance for the emergency department, as well as a new lobby and waiting area featuring an abundance of natural light. In addition to the private treatment rooms, patients also can expect a more private registration experience.

The new emergency department is part of the hospital’s two-year, $24.7 million expansion and renovation that adds 13,925 square feet to the campus. In December 2016, the hospital opened the first phase of the project – a new main entrance that included a canopy and patient drop off lane, vestibule, lobby and gift shop.

“With private rooms and increased space, we believe we will be able to provide an efficient, modern space that our community needs and deserves,” said Sarah Naumowich, president, Morton Plant North Bay Hospital. “The additional beds and treatment rooms, along with improved design features and amenities, allow us to enhance the care of our West Pasco community.”

The contractor for the project is Wehr Constructors, Inc., and Gresham, Smith and Partners are the architects.

Morton Plant North Bay Hospital has been expanding to a modern community-based medical complex since 2010, when the hospital opened the four-story, 56,000 square-foot Starkey Medical Tower with all new private patient rooms and a three-story, 45,000 square-foot Medical Arts Building.

In 2013 the hospital opened a new surgical center featuring six larger, integrated operating suites, which added 25,000 square feet to the hospital. That followed the addition of a new 9,750 square-foot cardiovascular center in 2011.

In August 2016, the Mitchell Rehabilitation Hospital, specializing in neurological and orthopedic inpatient rehabilitation, completed a two-year renovation and expansion to 30 new private patient rooms and additional space for patient treatment and therapy, larger gym space, a training apartment and an outside course featuring different walking surfaces.
