Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation Honors Donor
Main Hospital Tower Renamed Tiedemann Tower
CLEARWATER, Fla., (March 2, 2016) -- The Morton Plant Mease Health Care Foundation honored Kate Tiedemann and Ellen Cotton last week for their generous gift of $5 million to fund the intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging (iMRI) for Morton Plant Hospital’s new neurosurgical operating suite in the Doyle Tower.
During the event, the new Tiedemann Tower sign was lit for the first time to mark the naming of the current main hospital tower, the Tiedemann Tower.
“We are grateful for the generosity of Kate Tiedemann and Ellen Cotton,” said Kris Hoce, president of Morton Plant Hospital. “Gifts like this have allowed Morton Plant Hospital to provide leading-edge health care to our community for 100 years.”
Using the iMRI doctors can image patients during surgery, particularly brain surgery, to help confirm if surgery was successful or if additional surgery is needed before the patient’s head is closed.
The iMRI will be in Morton Plant Hospital’s new neurosurgical operating suite in the Doyle Tower. Scheduled to open in 2017, the Doyle Tower will add approximately 200,000 square feet to the hospital’s patient care and ancillary services space. The $200 million project will include private patient rooms, an additional main entrance to the hospital, a new surgical center, women’s services and orthopedics units.
The Doyle Tower is the centerpiece of a transformation to help the hospital meet the community’s health care needs for the future.
