Jackie Munro Earns 2015 Excellence in Nursing Leadership Award

CLEARWATER, Fla., (January 20, 2016) -- Jackie Munro, director, development and practice for Morton Plant Mease hospitals, has received statewide recognition through the Excellence in Nursing Leadership award from the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (FONE).

Munro was recognized for her use of innovative approaches; leadership skills; ability to facilitate change; community contributions; promotion of her profession; dedication to mentoring other nurses; and use of research and evidence-based practices to improve outcomes in patient care, nursing practice and nursing education.

“Jackie is one of the most knowledgeable and talented professionals I have known,” said Lisa Johnson, vice president of patient services for Morton Plant Mease hospitals. “She has the ability to combine her strong analytical skills with the ‘real’ world, which allows her to take ideas and quickly make them a reality.”

In her role with Morton Plant Mease, Munro has been instrumental in developing programs to advance the nursing profession. She proposed the Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) Residency Program that will not only help meet community needs for primary care but also improve clinical skills, confidence and productivity of ARNPs. She developed a Case Management Internship Program that has allowed the hospital to hire and retain RNs for the case management department, and she is starting a Graduate Nurse Residency Program with the December 2015 graduate nurses.

“Jackie is an amazing nurse and a tenacious leader who is dedicated to advancing her profession and thus improving patient care,” said Lou Galdieri, president, Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin hospitals. “She has a gift of seeing concerns and issues, envisioning solutions and then figuring out how to implement those solutions.”

Munro has worked at Morton Plant Mease for 28 years and has been the director of development and practice for eight. She earned her doctorate of philosophy in nursing science and her master of science in nursing from the University of South Florida. She also has a bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from the University of Tampa and an associate degree in nursing from St. Petersburg College.

Munro is an active member of the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE), the Florida Organization of Nurse Executives (FONE) and the Tampa Bay Organization of Nurse Executives. For the past two years, she has served as co-chair of the FONE research committee.

FONE is a group of nurse leaders who provide vision for the advancement of professional nursing practice and patient care. FONE promotes excellence in leadership to shape the future of health care delivery, education and health policy in Florida.
