Jeffrey Held, MD, Selected Vice President of Physician Services for Mease Hospitals

Board Certified Physician Had Key Role in BayCare’s Electronic Medical Record Project

SAFETY HARBOR, Fla., (September 4, 2014) - An internal Medicine physician for 10 years with Morton Plant Mease Health Care and a leader in implementation of BayCare’s electronic medical record has been selected to serve as an important liaison between hospital physicians, medical staff, and administration. Jeffrey Held, MD, is the new Vice President of Physician Services for Mease Dunedin Hospital, Mease Countryside Hospital, and BayCare Surgery Center.

“Dr. Held brings a wealth of experience and dedication to this role, including playing a leadership role in the implementation of BayCare’s electronic medical record system in its hospitals,” said Bruce Flareau, MD, executive vice president of BayCare Health System. “He is well-liked by his patients and respected by his colleagues.”

Dr. Held earned his medical degree at University of Florida and completed his Internal Medicine residency at the University of Maryland Medical System in Baltimore, MD. He was medical director of Baltimore Medical System’s Middlesex Health Center, and a staff physician at Healthcare for the Homeless before joining Morton Plant Mease Health Care in 2004.

In addition to his Internal Medicine practice, Dr. Held has been very active in administrative and committee work with BayCare Health System. He has served as: Co-chair, Morton Plant Mease Primary Care, Inc. EMR Committee, 2006-2011; member, Quality Review Committee; Chair, Mease Hospitals Department of Medicine, 2006-2009; and Mease Hospitals Bylaws Committee, 2006-2009.

As physician informaticist for BayCare’s BEACON electronic medical record project, Dr. Held developed a governance process for the design and implementation of computer provider order entry sets that emphasized physician engagement, workflow design, and physician acceptance.

Dr. Held is a member of the American College of Physicians, the Florida Medical Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honors Society. He was on the Pinellas County Medical Association Board of Governors from 2005-2011. He has been honored by the Diabetes Recognition Program of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a voluntary program to recognize clinicians who use evidence-based measures and provide excellent care to their patients with diabetes.
