South Florida Baptist Hospital Breaks Ground on New Surgical Center

PLANT CITY, Fla., Feb. 24, 2014 — South Florida Baptist Hospital will break ground March 4 on a project to expand operating rooms for its surgical center.

“With the increasing number of surgeries and the increased case complexity, we needed additional, larger operating rooms,” said South Florida Baptist Hospital President Karen Kerr.  “We continue to provide services here, such as robotic, neurospine, general and orthopedic surgery, so that Plant City residents don’t have to leave town for these specialties.”

A 6,300-square-foot addition will be built on the corner of Alexander and Reynolds Streets next to the Heart and Vascular Center, replacing an existing parking lot.  Current space will be reconfigured, and support space relocated.  The result will be the addition of two operating rooms, bringing the total number of ORs to seven, and the expansion of the recovery and waiting rooms, and storage area.

The $5.8 million construction project will occur in three phases and take one year to complete.
