Registration Open for Miles for Men, Men's Health Awareness Race
Fifth Annual Event Features 5K and 10K on Sept. 6
CLEARWATER, Fla., (Aug. 7, 2014) – Increasing men’s health awareness while providing a family-friendly race, Morton Plant Mease Foundation's fifth annual prostate cancer awareness race, Miles for Men, is open for registration and inviting runners to “Battle the Bridge.”
Scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6 at 6:30 p.m., the event starts on the Morton Plant Hospital campus before taking runners through surrounding waterfront neighborhoods and over the Memorial Causeway Bridge.
The race is presented by Urology Specialists of West Florida with proceeds benefitting the prostate cancer programs of Morton Plant Mease.
Miles for Men features a 5K (3.1 miles) and 10K (6.2 miles) and a Kids Dash. The Kids Dash will kick things off at 6 p.m., followed by the 5K and 10K at 6:30 p.m. There also will be food and fun from Papa John’s Pizza and Sea Dog Brewing Company, as well as live music on the main stage and along the race course featuring the Scheiber Sisters, Bet Me I’m Lying and many more.

- 10K: $30 until Aug. 31; $35 Sept. 1-5.
- 5K: $25 until Aug. 31; $30 Sept. 1-5.
- Kids Dash: $10 through Sept. 7.
Late registrations are available on the day of the race for an additional $5 fee.
The race is part of Morton Plant Mease’s recognition of September as National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.
The event hopes to build on last year’s successful event that attracted more than 600 participants, including a number of prostate cancer survivors.
The hospitals of Morton Plant Mease offer prostate cancer patients the most advanced treatment options available to combat the disease, including robotic-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomies and ultrasound-guided seed implantation. Additional treatment options include traditional surgery to remove the prostate gland, external beam radiation therapy and hormone therapy. A variety of support groups and services are also available to all cancer patients and their families to help them cope with the impact of cancer on their daily lives.
