Community Benefit and Community Health Needs

Community Benefit

Woven into the fabric of BayCare is the steadfast belief that everyone deserves the same access to high-quality care, regardless of their ability to pay. Improving the health of the community, both inside our clinical facilities and across our neighborhoods, is part of our DNA and fundamental to why our team members get up every day and go to work.

Every year, we provide care – in the form of community benefit – to uninsured and underinsured patients. Many might not receive the care they needed without the safety net that BayCare provides.

BayCare’s Report to the Community provides an overview of what we are working on as a health system, along with stories of our impact on patients, team members and our community.

Community Health Needs

Identifying Health Needs, Finding Solutions - BayCare Hospitals

As a leading community-based health system in the greater Tampa Bay area, BayCare is committed to meeting the wide-ranging health needs of our neighbors in every community we serve. As part of that commitment, BayCare conducts a comprehensive Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) every three years to identify the most significant health needs across our region and develop strategies for addressing them. A collaborative process is used to develop the assessments (and implementation plans) integrating extensive data analysis, community member feedback and in working with community organizations that share our commitment.

We invite you to learn more about the CHNA for your community, and how BayCare and community partners are responding to meet these needs, by selecting a hospital below. You can also find up-to-date community data and learn about community resources by visiting the All4HealthFL website.

BayCare’s Healing Bag Program
To address food insecurity, BayCare partnered with Feeding Tampa Bay to develop its Healing Bag program and distribute food to patients in need. BayCare distributed 14,348 Healing Bags to its hospital patients in 2023.
