Outpatient Collection Station - Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I bring?
When you visit, please bring your physician‘s written order AND your insurance card or Medicare/Medicaid card to avoid a delay in testing or a need to reschedule.
  • Where do I go?
Before a specimen can be collected or a previously collected specimen can be left, you must first register with the Outpatient Admitting department located on the first floor of the hospital, then you will be directed to the Outpatient Collection Station.
  • What should I expect?
A laboratory test requires one or more samples of blood or body fluids. Our experienced Phlebotomy staff is specially trained to extract blood from all age groups from infants to geriatrics.
  • How long will I have to wait?
The waiting time required will vary. The best time to arrive is between 9:00am and 3:30pm. Monday is typically our busiest day.
  • How should I prepare for my test?
Your physician is the best source for this information and should advise you on any preparation necessary. Some tests require that you fast (no food or drink from 9pm until after your blood is drawn the following morning). Please check with your physician for specific instructions.
