Department of Chaplaincy Services

Professional chaplains are spiritual care providers who are trained to assist with the spiritual and emotional needs of patients, families, and staff. Chaplains are available at Winter Haven Hospital to assist you during times of illness or crisis with sensitive and caring support.

Chaplains can assist you with:

  • Spiritual issues such as guilt and shame, feelings of abandonment by God, loss of meaning or hope
  • Anxiety regarding your diagnosis or treatment
  • Making difficult decisions
  • Ethical concerns
  • Advance directives
  • Celebrating good news
  • Grief support
  • Contacting your faith community or clergy

Hours - Chaplains are in the hospital between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on weekdays. Ask your nurse to contact the chaplain to request a visit. On-call chaplains are available for emergencies after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends and holidays.

Chapel - The chapels on the main campus and at the Regency campus are available 24 hours a day for meditation, prayer, and quiet reflection. The Winter Haven Hospital chapel is located on the first floor of the Swann building near the south entrance. The chapel in the Regency building is located on the second floor near the visitor elevator.

C.A.R.E. Channel 17 - The C.A.R.E. Channel (Continuous Ambient Relaxation Environment) operates throughout the hospital on television channel 17. Programming is available 24 hours per day and is an excellent resource for creating a peaceful, quiet, healing environment for our patients and their loved ones.

Grief Support – A booklet titled "Healing After Loss" is available to patients and their loved ones. It contains information about coping with loss and lists local resources for additional assistance. If you would like a copy, please ask your nurse or contact the chaplains' office at 863-297-1877.

Advance Directives – A Living Will indicates what kind of medical treatment you do or do not want to receive when you are no longer able to make decisions or communicate your wishes. Appointment of Health Care Surrogate authorizes another person of your choosing to make medical decisions for you when you are not capable of doing so. Chaplains are available to discuss these decisions with you and help you complete the documents. For more information about Advance Directives, call Chaplaincy Services at 863-297-1877.
