Tommy Inzina is chief operating officer of BayCare, the largest, community-based health system in the Tampa Bay area with 10 hospitals, 200 access points and more than 20,100 employees. BayCare connects patients to a complete range of services through its not-for-profit hospitals, outpatient and imaging facilities, home care and other clinical services.
As BayCare’s COO, Inzina oversees the following departments: hospital operations, human resources, information technology, legal services, strategic planning, marketing & communications, ambulatory services, supply chain and construction. Inzina accepted the position of COO in 2013 after years of serving as BayCare’s chief financial officer and chief administrative officer. As one of BayCare’s top leaders since 1997, Inzina has played a key role in the organization’s continued growth into one of the top employers in the Tampa Bay area.
While Inzina was BayCare’s CFO and CAO, the health system was one of the few in the country that received an upgraded credit rating in 2011, reflecting the organization’s strong and consistent financial planning. Credit agencies noted that despite the tough economy, BayCare continued to grow market share and maintain strong financial performance. As CFO, Inzina led the consolidation of BayCare’s finance, billing, supply chain, materials management and risk management departments. Inzina also led the creation of a centralized billing office and a centralized distribution center, creating significant savings and efficiencies for the entire organization.
During his career, Inzina has developed a wide range of experience in health care finance and operations, including mergers and acquisitions. Before joining BayCare, he specialized in health care auditing and consulting for Ernst & Young, one of the top global accounting firms. After ten years with Ernst & Young, Inzina joined St. Joseph’s-St. Anthony’s Health System, which is now part of BayCare.
Inzina graduated from Auburn University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Tampa. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a Fellow with the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
