Winter Haven Hospital promotes the professional growth and development of our employees. Last year the hospital reimbursed employees over $375,000 to support their education. The Winter Haven Hospital Foundation also offers scholarships to applicants each year. Over the last 2 years, the foundation invested over $100,000 in promoting the educational advancement of our staff. Active participation by the hospital in the Polk State College Foundation supports Partnership for Success. This program pays for tuition and books for students attending the nursing program.
We believe these are investments in our community. We have academic partnerships with numerous colleges and universities. Through our partnership with University of Florida, Shands Jacksonville, we have increased the number of board certified physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and other heath professionals in our community. Our standards are high; we strive to deliver the best care to our patients. Our academic partnerships promote quality of care by introducing the latest advances in technology, and research that is utilized at large teaching hospitals and medical centers, to our community. Our medical library has a full-time staff and subscribes to large databases such as OVID™ and DynaMed™. This technology allows our staff the capability of obtaining the latest information at the point of care.
We welcome students from various disciplines from University of Florida, Shands Jacksonville; University of South Florida, Florida Southern College, Southeastern University, Keiser University, Polk State College, Hillsborough Community College and others. In addition, our staff serves as preceptors, mentors, and faculty for many of our academic partners.
