Behavioral Health Services For Students and Faculty

BayCare Life Management's Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a valuable resource for schools, colleges and universities to assist students and faculty who may have personal problems that could affect their school, work or home lives. The program provides education, prevention, early intervention, professional assessment and service referrals that best meet the needs of the participant.

With services tailored to meet specific and unique needs, the program's goal is to keep students in school and help them cope with emotional problems and stress, sometimes manifested by the use of drugs and alcohol or other negative behaviors.

The SAP staff supports students in a compassionate, caring manner, helping them to meet work/life challenges and achieve a positive academic experience. The Faculty Assistance Program (FAP), a component of SAP, provides similar assistance to teachers and staff.

If you are currently a participant of BayCare Life Management's SAP, you can reach a case manager by calling 1-800-878-5470.

Description of Services

Components of the SAP will address a broad spectrum of behavioral health needs, including mental health and substance abuse issues:

  • Problem Identification/Assessment and Referral - Our staff identifies the presenting problem(s), assesses the situation and develops an appropriate plan of action.
  • Crisis Intervention - Offers post-crisis assessment and intervention services to members who experienced crisis situations.
  • Short-term Problem Resolution - This type of counseling is offered when resolution of the presenting problem can be resolved within the initial counseling sessions.
  • Monitoring and Follow-Up Services - Appropriate monitoring of individual’s progress and satisfaction, and follow up reporting with the client’s consent.
  • Consultation with Appropriate Leadership - Provides individual consultation to campus leadership regarding screening and the appropriate referral of members to the SAP/FAP.
  • Program Promotion and Education - Coordination of the development and use of promotional materials and activities that encourage the use of the SAP/FAP by students and faculty.

After an initial assessment and counseling sessions by a licensed therapist, the SAP professional can refer the student/faculty member to additional services if necessary. The SAP staff also will work with the student/faculty member to help them access insurance benefits, when appropriate, or refer them to resources in the community.
