BayCare Magnet Helps Save Woman's Life
It's not every day that a piece of mail helps save your life. But that's exactly what happened to Charlene Mixa last spring when the East Lake Woodlands resident received a BayCare magnet explaining heart attack signs and symptoms for men and women.
The day after receiving the magnet, Mrs. Mixa's chest and jaw began hurting. Because of the magnet, she connected the jaw pain for the first time to a possible heart attack.
Her husband drove her to Mease Countryside Hospital, whose name and address had appeared on the magnet, and she was treated for a heart attack.
Mrs. Mixa, who led a healthy, active lifestyle before her heart attack, is doing well today. She contacted BayCare to let us know how the magnet helped to save her life and because she wanted to share her story and help raise awareness about heart attack warning signs, particularly among women.
