What Is Heel Pain?

Heel pain is a common problem for many people. It usually involves a feeling of discomfort under your heel or at your Achilles tendon

How Does It Happen?

There are many causes of heel pain, including bursitis, bone spurs, plantar fasciitis, and rheumatoid arthritis

What Are the Signs and Symptoms?

The symptoms of heel pain are quite basic. They are marked by pain and pressure under the heel or at the Achilles tendon. Often, the condition makes it hard for you to walk.

How Is It Diagnosed?

Your doctor will determine the cause of your heel pain after considering your symptoms, doing a physical exam, and sometimes running images tests, such as x-rays.

How Is It Treated?

The best treatment may just be rest. Beyond that, your doctor may recommend strengthening exercises and the use of foot supports. You may also benefit from over-the-counter pain relievers. Learn more about BayCare's Foot and Ankle Care Centers.

What Is the Prognosis?

In most cases, heel pain will dissipate if you follow your doctor's instructions regarding rest and strengthening exercises.
