ALL Panel by FISH
Test name: ALL panel by FISH (CEP 4/10/17, 11q23, t(9;22), t(12;21))
Order name: ALL Panel by FISH request
Specimen requirements: Sodium heparin peripheral blood or bone marrow
Minimum volume: 1 mL
Storage and stability information: Room temperature 3 days
Test performed: Twice per week
Methodology: Fluorescence in situ hybridization
Reference range: See lab report
Clinical significance: Chromosome abnormalities are observed in up to 90% of acute lymphoblastic leukemia cases. Abnormalities of both chromosome structure and chromosome number are observed. Hyperdiploidy in children with trisomies of chromosomes 4, 10 and 17 is associated with a good prognosis when structural anomalies are absent. The t(12;21) translocation also has a good prognosis and is a subtle abnormality best detected by FISH. Abnormalities of 11q23 and the t(9;22) translocation are associated with a poor prognosis.
