Big Brother /
Big Sister
Description: This
child-friendly class is designed for siblings and parents to address the changes
a new baby brings to the family while preparing children to take pride in their
new role as a brother or sister. Bring a baby picture of your child and arrive
15 minutes early. At least one parent is required to attend with the child but
both parents are always welcome.
Boot Camp For
New Dads
Description: This is a 3-hour
workshop in which "veteran" fathers bring their 2-3 month old babies and orient
"rookie" dads who are expecting their first baby. The class prepares men to be
dads in all respects including burping, changing, swaddling, and the
"troubleshooter's guide to crying babies". A broad range of issues including
bonding, work hours, forming a parenting team, preventing child abuse, dealing
with relatives, etc. is discussed. The strongest emphasis is placed on the
tremendous support new moms need from dads. This program uses a man-to-man
approach and the book "Hit The Ground Crawling" is included with the class fee.
Childbirth
Preparation
Description: This popular
two-class series helps expectant mothers become informed, active participants in
the childbirth process. Information provided includes "breathing for life",
coping strategies, comfort measures, medications, and postpartum adjustment.
Plan to attend no later than early in your seventh month of pregnancy. A
prepared childbirth book is included with the class fee. Heart Smart Shopping
Tour
Description:
Join registered dieticians from the LifeHelp program at St. Anthony's Hospital
for a guided tour through the Sweetbay Supermarket. During the tour you will
learn to make healthier food selections, decipher label lingo, lighten up your
diet and discover new items. Infant / Child
CPR
Description: This class
teaches you how to perform lifesaving CPR and choking rescue techniques on both
infants and children according to American Heart Association guidelines.
Students must be at least 9 years old. Newborn
Care
Description: This interactive
class teaches all aspects of infant care including feeding, diapering, bathing
safety, signs of illness, and newborn characteristics. You will learn about
infant cues, infant states, and how your infant will communicate with you. The
class is for the expectant mother and her partner only. Additional guests are
welcome to attend however there is a fee of $15 for each additional person.
Over The River And
Through The Woods....Grandparenting
Class
Description: This class is
intended to help new and expectant grandparents prepare for this wonderful new
aspect of being a grandparent. A discussion of the changes in hospital care over
the past few decades as well as the latest recommendations in newborn and infant
care will be covered and a visit to the labor and delivery and mother-baby units
is offered. The fee for the class includes both grandparents.
Prepared
Childbirth
Description: This class is designed to help expectant mothers and
their partners to become well-educated active participants in their child-birth
experience. The class curriculum includes breathing or relaxation. Topics
covered: what to expect in the third trimester, labor, delivery, post-partum and
newborn care. A tour of the facility is included. Surgical Weight Loss
- Is It Right For Me?
Description: If traditional weight loss programs haven't worked for
you, join us for this special information session to learn more about the option
of surgical weight loss. Kevin Huguet, M.D., a member of the American Society
for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons, and The LifeHelp Center invite you to hear
more about the advantages of surgery using the LAP-BAND(r) system. Find out if
surgical weight loss is an option for you. Yoga For Baby And
Me
Description: This class is
designed to help the new mom restore herself physically, mentally and
emotionally while bonding and doing Yoga with her new baby. The class is taught
by a certified Yoga instructor. Please bring a blanket, a towel or a yoga mat
big enough for mom and baby.
