Residential: Juvenile Justice Intensive Mental Health

Program Description

The Mandala Adolescent Treatment Center is a 24-bed Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) residential program for youth with intensive mental health needs. Frequently, referred youth have a severe emotional disturbance, history of gang involvement, poor familial stability, poor vocational readiness/preparation and educational concerns further impacting their level of impairment and maladaptive behavior. These needs not only make these youth unsuitable for placement in a general offender setting; they indicate specialized interventions are needed to rehabilitate these youth for successful, productive re-entry within the community.

All program services are designed to address mental health issues, delinquent acts, anti-social biases, as well as criminal thinking and behaviors. Services include weekly individual therapy, family therapy, twice daily group therapy, crisis intervention, case management, vocational services, psychiatric medical services, psychological services, and behavioral management. Mandala uses cognitive-behavioral interventions and psychodynamic methodologies coordinated through an onsite multi-disciplinary treatment team to develop and maintain individualized mental health treatment planning for each youth.

Mandala maintains highly qualified therapeutic staff, to include licensed clinicians, psychiatrist, psychologist, mental health counselors and registered nursing staff personnel. Individuals are admitted by direct referral from the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ), and include 14-  to 18-year-old male offenders who meet criteria for intensive mental health services. The Pasco School Board provides overlay educational services for exceptional student education.
