Residential: Childrens Substance
Abuse
Program Description
The Harbor Academy is an 18-bed residential substance abuse
treatment facility for adolescents with an average 4-6 month length of stay.
Treatment includes individual, group, and family therapy. Milieu Treatment is
provided within the therapeutic community along with Rational Recovery and
12-step self-help support groups. All residents are enrolled in the Alternative
Education Class provided by the Pasco County School Board. Parents/guardians are
required to attend prescribed family sessions as well as multi-family
psycho-educational groups.
As part of The Academy, a transition track has been developed
for those individuals who are aging out of the Adolescent Residential Program to
be successfully transitioned into our Adult Residential Program. Ongoing
collaboration of continuing care strategies and referrals for post-residential
services occurs with all stakeholders, specifically Juvenile Justice. The
primary target population is adolescents with substance abuse disorders and/or
co-occurring mental health issues. The majority of adolescents are referred
through the Department of Children & Families, the Department of Juvenile
Justice and self-referral. The adolescents must be between the ages of 13-18
and non-violent, non-suicidal and non-homicidal with substance abuse
problems.
