Intervention: Family Intervention Specialist
(FIS)
Program Description
The FIS works closely
with caseworkers from child protective supervision and/or child
protective investigation. This program provides specialized outreach, linkage, monitoring, planning, advocacy and intervention
services for adult caretakers with substance abuse issues. After
conducting thorough screenings to identifying substance abuses issues and determining
the most appropriate treatment referral resource, the FIS refers individuals to
local providers for further assessment and placement when indicated. The
FIS also may provide referrals for the spouse, significant others and children to appropriate
support groups or other treatment resources. The target population for FIS services
is adult caretakers involved with protective services and in need of substance
abuse treatment. These individuals require assistance in identifying goals and
making choices to promote and facilitate recovery. Enhanced services for special
populations are provided for adults with co-occurring disorders.
