Advancing Superior Health
Care
BayCare's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) program, known as BEACON, reached
its first major milestone April 1, 2008, when St. Anthony's Hospital
became the first hospital in the health system to go live
with Phase I. Morton Plant North Bay Hospital went live soon after,
followed by Morton Plant Hospital on July 8.
BEACON is BayCare's
seven-year, multi-phase initiative that will create a single electronic chart for patients with
real-time access to information from all points of care. When completed, BEACON will
be used across the system as the main information source to automate care, strengthening
communications among clinical teams, streamlining the medication process and
providing more medical information at the bedside where caregivers need it
most.
BEACON Phase I will continue launching one facility at a time
for the rest of the year with Mease Countryside and Mease Dunedin hospitals
going next. The "stepped" roll-out provides opportunities for BEACON teams to
learn new information with each successful Go-Live, while helping to ensure the
necessary training and resources are available for the team members and
physicians at each location.
Key Points
- The entire health care team will see comprehensive, real-time
patient information.
- Patients will receive superior care at the right place and
right time.
- The community will benefit from a powerful health improvement
tool that can make a real difference.
Phase II
BEACON Phase II looks to improve the
continuity and coordination of patient care across the inpatient and emergency
department settings. This phase will roll-out to facilities starting with the
opening of St. Joseph's Hospital-North in Oct. 2009.
Phase II solutions include: Critical Care and Clinical
Documentation across the organization, Electronic Medication Administration
Record (eMAR), Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE) and physician
documentation in the ED, as well as FirstNet at the facilities that do not
currently have this solution.
