Morton Plant Expansion Completes First Step in Preparing for $84 Million Construction Plan

CLEARWATER, Fla. (December 16, 2003) - Morton Plant Hospital has completed the first step in preparing for its $84-million master site plan to help the hospital prepare for its second century of service to the community. Removal of the Morrow Pavilion has been finished and construction crews are preparing for removal of Morton Plant's Roebling Building.

Exterior walls of the building are expected to come down in January. Bricks from the Roebling Building will be conserved for an intended future use on the Morton Plant campus.

Announced in July, Morton Plant's master plan includes a new 148,000 square-foot building that will include a new heart hospital and 100 additional private rooms. Other parts of the master plan focus on integration of all women's services into one center, expansion of surgical suites, radiology and endoscopy services.

To prepare for construction of a new heart hospital and new surgical suites, the Roebling, Morrow, 1953 and 1941 buildings are being removed from the Morton Plant campus. Services currently provided in those buildings have been relocated to other parts of the hospital. The new heart hospital is expected to be completed in the fall of 2005. Plans call for radiology and women's services to be completed in the fall of 2007.

Morton Plant's Hospital new $10 million Donna and Wil Ptak Orthopaedic and Neurosciences Pavilion is also progressing as the exterior walls are being put into place. Consisting of 94,000 square feet and four stories, Morton Plant Hospital's new Orthopaedic and Neurosciences Pavilion will be home to a variety of services for the comprehensive outpatient care of orthopaedic and neurological patients and their families.

Established in 1916, Morton Plant Hospital is a 687-bed facility dedicated to improving the health of all it serves through community-owned health services that set the standard for high quality, compassionate care. Morton Plant Hospital is located at 300 Pinellas Street, Clearwater, Fla., 727-462-7000.
